In March 3R’s partnered with Camp Susan Curtis and committed to provide 500 backpacks annually to underprivileged students who attend Camp Susan Curtis every summer.
In May fifty-four volunteers from six local companies gave their time during the United Way Day of Caring. Volunteers worked tirelessly painting, cleaning the yard, planting flowers, cleaning the teacher store and sorting and organizing donations in the warehouse.
In June 3R’s hosted the annual Kids In Need Foundation's National Network of Resource Centers Summit here in Portland. This event brought together 115 attendees from teacher resource centers around the country to network and exchange ideas.
We are grateful to Baker Newman & Noyes, Texas Instruments and the TD Bank Charitable Foundation for sponsoring the Summit!
In July We kicked off our 10th Annual Tools for Schools Backpack Drive and filled approximately 5,000 backpacks to distribute to disadvantaged students throughout Maine. 3R’s worked with WMTW Channel 8, L.L. Bean, Unum, and multiple other companies and individuals who donated their time, provided sponsorships and held supply drives to support this annual event.
In August the Teacher Store opened for the new school year! We had 173 eager shoppers on Opening Day, but set a record on the second day with 198 shoppers! We are so thankful for all of the volunteers that help us to pull this off every year - we could not do this without them!
This year Ruth was interviewed on the Coast 93.1 Morning Show and attended

Pair of Maine Icons Donate to 3Rs
Two high-profile companies, Tom’s of Maine and Hannaford Supermarkets, have made donations totaling $25,000 to Ruth’s Reusable Resources (3R’s). The $15,000 gift from Tom’s of Maine is being used to upgrade Ruth’s phone system, improve shipping methods, and purchase an electric pallet jack. The $10,000 Hannaford donation will help purchase new computers and hardwire Ruth’s distribution center.
Hannaford’s gift marks its second to Ruth’s Reusable Resources, the first coming when the organization operated from Bessey School in Scarborough.
“These donations have not only bolstered our ability to make better use of work space; they’re also making the work day much easier and satisfying for our small staff and large corps of volunteers,” Many thanks to Hannaford and Tom's of Maine!
