“Good-to-be-Green Gala” 20th Celebration
Ruth’s Reusable Resources is offering free materials to students wanting to create artwork. Come and choose materials at the store’s location at 39 Blueberry Rd. in Portland, ME on Sat. April 12 from 9:30am to 2pm. Students are invited to come and choose materials that inspire them. A variety of other reusable materials will be available for purchase from 3R’s 4-Public Store in the same location.
All artists are invited to participate in the “Good-to-be-Green Gala” to benefit Ruth’s Reusable Resources on June 20th. As inspiration, they might consider using recycled and re-purposed materials, such as those that Ruth offers. All donated artwork will be auctioned off during her major fund-raising event. Artists may choose to donate all of the sale price to benefit the 3R’s mission or to have half of the auction price returned to them. Artwork made from non-recycled sources is also more than welcome!
Ruth is offering free supplies to assist in creating the artwork. These will be available for pick up at the store’s location at 39 Blueberry Rd. in Portland, ME on Sat. April 12 from 9:30am to 2pm. Artists are invited to come and choose materials that inspire them. A variety of other recycled materials will be also available for purchase from Ruth’s 4-Public Store.
This event celebrates 20 years of Ruth’s Reusable Resources (3R’s) non-profit mission to ensure that students and classrooms in Maine have the basic tools for learning by transferring the community’s surplus supplies and merchandise to the hands of students and teachers. This is accomplished through a 28,000 square foot warehouse and store where new and gently used furniture, paper, books, office supplies, art supplies, and more – donated from 600+ businesses nationwide – are stacked from floor to ceiling.
Today, 71,000 students and 9,600 teachers benefit from the program. In 20 years, 3R’s has successfully diverted millions of pounds of reusable materials from Maine landfills, and transferred more than $49 million worth of supplies to the hands of Maine children.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for area artists to partner with us in creating truly unique mixed media works of art, gain visibility for their work, and network with other artists,” says Ruth Libby, Founder and CEO.
The Good-to-be-Green Gala begins at 5pm with a gallery exhibition of all the artists’ work, food and drink, live music, tours of Ruth’s facility, and a silent auction followed by a live auction. We hope you will join us! Interested artists can download the attached donation form. You’ll find more information at www.ruths.org or by calling 207-699-5565.

Ruth's Reusable Resources this year, 2013, filled over 4,000 backpacks. 19 schools have been chosen and with the help of our local sponsors, businesses, and your individual donations we helped put the smiles on faces of those kids for the first day of school!
